As I walked into the building of the Empowerment BReakfast, all I could think was, "Wow! My classmates and I are so lucky!" I was amazed by the set-up and all the delicious food! We went to our seats and practiced getting on stage to the song "Roar" by Katy Perry. As the guests came in, we all had important jobs such as greeting guests and taking photos. I got to introduce myself to some really amazing and inspiring people including Malala and two editors from Seventeen Magazine. My experience at the Empowerment Breakfast was magnificent and unforgettable!

Along with five other girls and many others from other TYWLS schools, I got the opportunity to go to an Empowerment Breakfast in Manhattan and meet very amazing and inspirational people. My favorite person I got to meet was Malala Yousafzai. Her story is truly amazing. The Taliban shot her on the left side of her head on her way to school because of her advocacy of girls’ rights for education. Malala’s speech at the breakfast focused on standing up for what you believe in because that is exactly what she did. She has inspired me to do the same. Her determination, boldness, and bravery made her my hero. Attending this breakfast was a wonderful experience that I wish I could do all over again.
